Title: Songs for male solo
Post by: favoritepsalm1 on May 23, 2013, 07:44:51 AM
So I've was asked this Tuesday to sing a solo for a service this Sunday.  It's not any particular kind of service; just the annual program for our dance ministry.  I've always been choir/praise team; don't really do solos.  Any suggestions for songs?  Our church is pretty even keel regarding traditional/contemporary, so I could go either way.  Thanks in advance!

What's your range?
Will the choir/praise team back you?

Movin' Forward by Israel?
I need You, now by Smokie?
He's Able by Darwin Hobbs/ Deitrick Haddon?

I'm trying to decide whether to use praise team or just sing by myself.  I'm more comfortable with praise team back up.  I may just do something that I sing anyway and call it a day.

I've done "He's Able" and "I Need You  Now" before.
"Moving Forward" would be nice if my musicians and praise team knew it.  It's just so short a notice and I dislike doing anything without good preparation.

As far as my range, some of the songs I typically lead:

"Freedom" Eddie James - This is in E and is probably the peak of my range
"Yahweh" Mali Music
"Awesome" Pastor Charles Jenkins
"Speak" Myron Butler
"Called to Be" Johnathan Nelson
"Draw Me Close"  Pastor Marvin Winans

But it would be nice to do something different.  Here's some things I thought about...

"Stand" Pastor Donnie McClurkin
"I belong to You"  William McDowell
"Close To You" Youthful Praise
"Dominion" Pastor Jason Nelson
"Available"  Rev. Milton Brunson

I like those two choices. I SO wish there was a performance trax for 'Yahweh'; I LOVE that song.

I should also comment that you may want to consider doing something new if for no other reason than variety.

What about 'We need Lord' by Jonathan Butler?
