Title: Gospel organ solo + singer music listening cd pointers?
Post by: gosplay on April 08, 2014, 04:50:24 PM
Hello friends!

I wanted to ask you for some music listening tips! I love gospel organ and find my way into playing it. I'd like to find CDs, records or live performances which feature traditional gospel music and hymns only played/accompanied by organ player + one singer like in the style which is in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kp__-eVpN0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kp__-eVpN0) which was performed by Pastor Belita McMurry-Fite and Pastor Danny Futch.

4:52 My Soul Loves Jesus
5:35 Great Is Thy Faithfullness (Instrumental)
6:33 Over In Zion
8:05 Soon I Will Be Done

I also adore Ethel Caffie Austin's solo playing and singing on the piano:
Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAcVzgCsx5c (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAcVzgCsx5c)
Angels Keep Watching Over Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0zFIe_fwzY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0zFIe_fwzY)

I am so into this kind of traditional hymn and gospel performances (organ and also piano), would love to have more to listen to!!!
Please help me!!

Best wishes!

Hello,

If you are looking for solo organ type stuff, you can check out Alfred Bolden and Billy Preston. They've put out solo gospel organ albums. You could probably find the music on Youtube and just rip the audio to an mp3 file and burn it to a CD or put it on a MP3 player. Also, the late Bishop Phil Willis (https://www.youtube.com/user/professorprw (https://www.youtube.com/user/professorprw)) did a lot of tradition music.
