I'm trying to get back into midi recording. What are some of the best budget daws? Iused to have calkwalk music crecreator. I'm planning on using vast plugins and audio recording. I am also considering getting Hammond B3 organ vst software.
Technically I want to take my tablet anywhere and use it with the midi controller I have to play live or record at the same time. Anybody doing this currently?

I guess I found what I was looking for in Musiccraft 6. ;D It is woring with my midi controller without latency and has a B3 organ sound. I am running it on my tablet. mysteryman is portable now. My tablet powers the controller. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I downloaded a few daws over the weekend but have not played them enough. Not sure I like the ones that are not plug and play like Mix craft but I will look into them some more.

I am also in the market for a budget midi DAW. I am currently using Cakewalks Music creator pro 2004 which will have to go when my Windows XP desktop packs up.
I too am looking for a low cost dAW that can mix audio & midi seamlessly.
Thanks for the pointer to Musiccraft 6, it looks like this will be the next purchase
I downloaded a few daws over the weekend but have not played them enough. Not sure I like the ones that are not plug and play like Mix craft but I will look into them some more.

I messed around with a few of the others without reading any manuals. :D I think mix craft is cool as far as plug and play. I have had it crash a few times when trying to save a midi. I have not looked into the details as of why. I can get a student discount on it from journeyed. I am also tempted to just by a portable audio interface bundle and use the tools that come with it. I may end up just buying mix craft pro for $84. It would be nice to mic up multiple instruments and record live on my tablet though and have everything in one bag. I'm tempted to get back into programming and start making apps.

I downloaded reaper too and tried setup midi without reading. :D I didn't get anywhere. I may reinstall it and try again.

The USB port on my midi controller broke. I'm taking it in for the warranty. The old school midi cables are definitely better than the newer type ports.

I ended up buying a presonus audio interface because it was on sale. I got studio one 3 artist for free. Unfortunately I can't load third party vsts unless I buy an add-on.

I bought the Scarlett Focusrite Audio interface bundle and got Cubase 7 Elelement. Awesome software that can do all the things that you mentioned. I even loaded the free Kontakt player and focusrite provided tons of their own plugins and add ons which makes my DAW pretty cool. Cubase has got a bit of a learning curve though. Took me some time to figure out how to record properly using my motif xs.
