Title: Left hand chords
Post by: zeph1 on June 24, 2017, 03:33:56 PM
Ok got a question for u, um I think I've gotten to the root of my problem musically. I do hope you can answer this question for me. But I'm trying to develop my lefthand chords, and I was wondering about the voicing. Isn't the chord itself a 3rd or minor 3rd away from the bass note???

For example say I was to have a full sounding Ab chord
I'd have Ab in my bass and CEbG in my left, with the Ab7 in my right???

If you can give me an answer I would appreciate it very much.

That's a good start. The general rule is to start chords on the 3rd(Eb) or the 7th(G). For this particular chord I like to start on the 7th and voice it GBbCEb in the left hand with GBbEb in the right hand. However, the way I voice chords is based on the chord before and the chord after. I choose the voicings that require the least amount of movement from chord to chord.

Ok but I'm confused, u said that the chord starts with the 3rd and the 7th so u should have
a C=3rd and the 7th=G. So either I would have in the Key of Ab

Ab/ CEbGBb/ Ab7

Am I missing something????

Thanx
