Title: Has this ever happened?
Post by: jude63 on February 04, 2019, 06:42:45 PM
Have you ever learned a new song and forgot how it goes when it was time to play it?  Its frustrating when that happens :)
What strategies do people use to remember all the songs, there can be many during a service.

Chord charts and fake books were a help to me whenI was playing on a regular basis.  I had a large notebook(loose leaf) and I would put it on the piano(the sheets filed alphabetically) and if I needed to, I would flip to the song in question. Just the fact of having it there helped me to remember to some extent simply because I knew it was there. When necessary, I would look at the chords and would be able to play most songs as they would refresh my memory.  If necessary, I would just read the chords. Using numbers, you can transpose, or use the transpose switch. Happy playing.

Yeah, writing out your own charts really helps, and really practicing until it becomes a part of you, mainly focusing on the one song for a week or so.
