diminished scale

i recently learned the diminished scale
but i don't really know where and how to use it most affectivly

i've done my own research and found that it's primarily used over any dominant 7th chord (in jazz the 13th is implied). any extensions can be used and b5 is usually present. there are two different diminished scales-1. half step, in which you alternate half and whole steps and the whole step, in which you alternate starting with a whole step then half step. hope this helps everyone
