Anybody use some classic rock licks when playing in church, I want to learn some but which scale do you use to get them major?

The scale you use depends on what key the song is in and what chord you're playing over.
As for "classic rock" licks, you can go get some of the original blues records by pioneers like Robert Johnson, T-bone Walker, Muddy Waters, B B King, Albert King, Buddy Guy and others and learn all you need from them.
That's how Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Duane Allman, Gary Rossington, Jimi Hendrix and everyone else learned to play what they played.
Maybe you'll get a new inspiration from that music by using the Lord as your guide.

The blues and rock music is very close to one another.I hope you are not talking about the heavy metal stuff.With playing right key using hammer ons,pul-offs, bends,and let GOD BE YOUR LEAD!!!! I think sometimes we are too hard on ourselves,keep in mind you are in GOD house and he do not aspect everybody to play like PRINCE PLAY AND PRAISE GOD

What Chet did was totally different than anything in classic rock.
Although he could play like a "normal" guitar player, he pretty much took a style called "Travis picking"...playing chord rhythm, lead lines, and alternating bass at the same time...and became the best of the best at it.

Going back a step...much of the classic rock licks derived from blues are based on the pentatonic (major and minor) scales as well as the blues scale.
The blues scale is a pentatonic minor scale with the addition of a flat 5 note and can be played over a major chord progression (with care).

I agre with guitardave about blues scales,since blues and gospel music tradionally are about a hair's width between them. For fun We play the praise song"Take my Heart"(Holiness,Holiness,etc.)a little different than normal.We add like a Carribean style drums,Reggae rythym guitar,rock bass,and if you can find a country fiddle and blend them all together,it really sounds neat.For the bass part of this song,Steve Miller's"The Joker" fits the song to a T.

As GuitarDave said that is the classic of classics. Chuck Berry is considered by many the father of Rock & Roll and many of his licks were and are copied to this day.

Hendrix also played a version of this song!
