Thank you sir! I found her while I was an employee at MARS music before they went out of business. It's a wonder I didn't get fired because I played her every chance I got. :D She kept begging me to take her home so I did! There was a slight intonation problem on my D string but my luthier set her up quite nicely. We've been inseparable ever since! ;D

In many ways, the humble Fender Precision Bass can be considered the foundation of modern music.  Many many great recordings have been mad over the years featuring this instrument.  In addion to the Jazz V, take a look at the Deluxe Precision V as well as the Ernie Ball Sting Ray V.

The Fender Precision a starter bass?? I don't think so! If you do your research, you will find that 75% or higher of most recorded music was recorded using a Fender Precision. Most recording studios in the 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's had a Precision Bass on hand!

At some level, you both have a point.  The Fender Precision has probably been used on more recorded music than any other bass.  The Fender Jazz is probably a distant second.  Thing is, since the '80s the Fender product line has gotten fairly complex.  There isn't just a "Fender Precision".  There's a Fender Precision MIM, a Fender Precision American Std, a Fender Precision American Deluxe (active electronics)  and various special edition and artist signature models.  Some people might consider the Squire Precision and the MIM Fender Precision entry level basses because of their very low prices and sparcity of features, but the majority of the Fender Precision lineup are professional quality basses.

Fender is also stepping up their game. The MIM's now come with noiseless pickups and a gig bag! The Highway Ones now have upgraded pickups, graphite reinforced necks and a Leo Quan Bad@$$ bridge and also comes with a gig bag! Even the Squiers are close to being in the above beginner bass category! Yamaha and Ibanez make better entry level basses and that is where Fender earned their meat & potatoes! So they needed to step up their game in order to stay in the game!

Now my weapons against Evil are:

Hohner B Bass VI (6 string) My main axe
Peavey T-40 (4 string) Old Grand dad 26 years old
Ibanez EDA-905 (5 string) It has a wide neck, I was curious about the
sound so I got it for $199

Sold:
DeArmond Pilot Deluxe VI (6 string)
Washburn Bantam XB-500 (5 string)

Music Man StingRay (4 string)... I have to post a picture of it somewhere. I got it as a floor model for $750... all I had to do was clean it up a little. There are normally twice that price.

I just got an Ibanez BTB455.  Beautiful, but the intonation is just a tad off (saddles on E and B pulled all the way back, and almost getting there with Elixir Nanowebs...) and it's heavy.  But what sustain!

The MIM's now come with noiseless pickups and a gig bag!

I wish Fender never gave those pickups 'noiseless' as a part of the product name.  They are a little bit quieter and less scratchy compared to regular alnico pickups, but they are not noiseless!  My Jazz bass came equiped with them and I soon replaced them with Bartolini's M-2's.  Not the best idea that Fender has ever done.
