Rechargable batteries?

Peavey Millennium 5 AC BXP 5-String. This thing is a monster on the batteries. Good bass for the price though.

I'm just wondering who here is using rechargable batteries. Reading this made me consider it, but my bass doesn't eat batteries really fast. Especially, since there's a bypass switch on it, so I can turn it off and play passive.

At home, I usually play passive, at church I'll play active, but mostly because the church amp sucks, and I don't feel like lugging mine.

I don't own an active bass, but a friend of mine who has  been playing for 30 years and working on all aspects of bass and guitar for 25 (also tinkers with rc cars/helicoptors) uses rechargables in all his active basses. The guy owns about 16 basses and 12 guitars. I have called him a guitar nerd.

One day, I'll get an RC airplane. I may get one before I leave Korea. I can't fly it here though....Imagine what would happen, if an RC airplane flew around on a military base.  8O  It'd probably get shot down, with all this terrorist stuf going on...  :?  :cry:

I'm just wondering who here is using rechargable batteries.

We use them at our church for the radio mic. RB's are nice cos you can, well, recharge them, but they tend to lose charge really fast. Ie a standard Duracell will lose 10% of its charge in a year, a RB will lose 10% of its charge in a day (numbers off the top of my head).

So they are good when you need to use them there and then, less so for sporadic long-term usage.

I have to disagree with elio. I use the Energizer NiCd 9v battery for my bass(which has a bypass switch also) and have used it (the same battery) for years now. I haven't purchased a battery in years. It never even goes dead because when I've played a long service I just drop it back in the charger, pull it out and go. I can't make a claim for all RB, but for the above mentioned brand, it has saved me so much money and hastle.

Oh I got the battery for like 9.99 at Best Buy and the charger was like 20.00. Not trying to sound cheap or like a tightwad lol, but just compar 30.00 to how much you may spend in a year on 4.99 9v batteries. You do the math.

Yea. I need to get a better recharger. I have an NiMH recharger now, but it only recharges AAA and AA batteries.

B3 try leaving your amp at the church if its safe and getting an extra for home

What do you all think about using a dc voltage regulator?  I'm thinking about putting together a 9V dc regulator to connect.  I'm thinking about just wrapping the wire around my bass cable and putting the regulator in my rack or something.
