Fodera - Top of the list for a reason.

MTD's Mike Tobias is a Master.

Ken Smith - ain't no joke for a punchy, articulate bass that will KILL!!

F Basses - Lately, I've played a few (got my eyes on a 6 string Natural Cerruse, in fact) that really impressed me!!

Lakland - Good all purpose, I don't care for the lower Skyline series and he doesn't make a 6, but lot's of GOspel playesr swear by them.

Sadowsky and Mike Lull - I don't care for the Fender Clones, but in the studio, they're legends for delivering good tone.

But give me any of the first 4 with the right wood combination and I'm happy as a hog in slop heaven.

In my humble opinion, Alembic, Carvin, Linc Luthier, Music Man and Ken Smith make the best bass guitars that I have ever played(Alembic-own a 1983 Spoiler-, Music Man Stingray) or heard(Carvin P-series, Linc Luthier Ken Smith). If you are not familiar with carvin, check out their website at www.carvin.com. You can listen to samples of the P- series bass and see and hear Bunny Brunel demonstrate the model that he designed for Carvin. On a different note, SWR is the best bass amplifier manufacturer-PEROID!! To hear some VERY GIFTED BASSISTS, you need to check out Ralphe Armstrong, Brian Bromberg, Bunny Brunel, Alain Caron, Jonas Helborg, Anthony Jackson, Randy Jackson(American Idol judge), Alphonso Johnson, (Weather Report's FIRST electric bassist),  Louis Johnson, Mark King(Level 42), Michael Manring and Dean Peer.

GOD BLESS!

Favorite would be Ken Smith.  The sound that comes out of his instruments is wicked!  Very Very PUnCHY!  Took him 3 1/2 months to make my bass and everytime i called to talk to him i always got him and not a machine or his secretary.....

It's good to know that the instrument you purchased is a BEAST, and its even better to know that the luthier is willing to talk to you and answer any questions that u need to ask!  Thumbs up for Ken Smith!
