I'm blessed, fortunate, and ridiculously spoiled and own several of my dream basses.  Five of my 6 basses are pictured here....

The 6th one is a Blue Music Man Bongo that I tried very hard to hate when I played it at Guitar Center but wound up buying it.

The two on the ends are Alembics.  The 5 string is a Series II, the 4 string is a Series I.  The basses right next to each Alembic are Hanewinckel 6 string basses.  The one on the left is fretless, the one on the right is fretted.  They are consecutive serial numbers, even though I bought both used, two years apart.  The one in the middle is a custom that I had built by a luthier named Jacob Marchlewski.  It's a very small, very light (for me) 5 string with maple body, neck and fingerboard with amboyna burl top and back and Bartolini pickups and preamp.

I tend to play the Marchlewski or the fretted Hanewinckel at church service.

Peace,

James

Just noticed the picture didn't display in my original post, so here's a link to the picture I tried to post.

They sound amazing.  I had always shy-ed away from them because of their looks, but then I played one and was amazed at how much better it sounded than Music Man Sting Rays that I have played.  Then I noticed that it doesn't look as bad in person as it does in pictures.  Or maybe that was just  my justification for buying it   .  When the guy at Guitar Center knocked $400 of the price and offered me "No payments No interest" for 15 months, I figured that the worst case scenario is I'd take it, play it for a while and sell it for what it cost before the bill is due.  Can't beat that.  Fact of the matter is, though, I'll probably wind up keeping it.

James

Steelpulz,

Looks like my list.
I just got my first F Bass BN5 last month.
Prayfully I will have the MTD by  years end.
Although Carey is making a fine instrument in the Nordstrand, I have Nino Valenti building me a Valenti 5
Finish: Natural Ash body with a high gloss clear finish
Wenge Neck with black laminate headstock face (alla Gibson Les Paul)
Wenge Board (no inlays?)
Nordstrand DC5’s Dual Coil pickups - Series Parallel Coil Tap for Each located in the knobs
Aguilar OBP-3 w/ Active/Passive Bypass with mid selector switch located in mid knob
Hipshot Type A Bridge Satin Black
Hipshot Ultralites Satin Black
Schaller Strap Locks
Should be in my hands sometime in February, in the meantime I will enjoy my F Bass which has become #1 in my bass rotation with the
"MTD Coming 2006".

"Dear Lord, please help me to overcome envy." :)

Hey Gospaul. Very nice. I got a chance to play Carye's NX-7 at NAMM( my new favorite) It was sweet-light, very poayable looked good, sounded better. I also sample fretted and fretless F Basses. Very nice. Adler basses were also at the top of the list. I am not sure which one I'll go after.......I think Carey's 7-string may be the way to go. It was much easier to play than I anticipated. Not hard at hard adjustment for a 5-string player.

What churches do you play for in L.A.? I'm @ St. Matthews Tabernacle of Praise, Maranatha SDA, Miremonte SDA.

My dream one would be the Newest Yamaha TRB-6 JP...I have the old one, now I want the new one....they sound great they have all the tones to get some really nice gospel growl.  It has a wide neck for my fat fingers. I love it and I can't wait to get the newest one

The MTD 535 is the bass most likely to get me in serious trouble.  I already have more basses than I truly need, so I can usually fight off the temptation to buy another one.  But those rare times I do get my hands on a 535, I have to work REAL HARD not to whip out a credit card.  Those and Jerzy Drozd 5-strings.

James

Cool.  Now that I can get pictures to show up, I'll be totally obnoxious and post pictures of my entire herd.  Believe me, my basses are higher quality than their bassist!!

I bought this Alembic Series I 4 string from Stanley Clarke

I custom ordered this one from Alembic because I needed a 5 string for my church playing

I'll post the others later.  (I'm late for rehearsal  8O  8O )

Ok, as promised (threatened?) here are my other instruments....

This 5 string is one I had custom built by Jake Marchlewski of Pensacola Florida

These two are also custom built, but I bought them used.  They are both 6 stringers, one fretless, the other fretted.  They were built by Pete Hanewinckel of San Diego, Cali.  I bought them two years apart, but they are consecutive serial numbers.  The one on the right with Nathan East's signature on it is the one I play most at church.

If you are talking about the Marchleski 5-string, the fretboard is Birds-eye Maple.  So is the pickguard.  The top wood on the body, the pickup covers, and the knobs is Amboyna Burl.

The fretboard on both Alembics is Ebony.  They both have mahogany body wood.  The 4-string has a Walnut Burl top and back.  The 5-string has a Coco Bolo top and back.  They both have Maple necks with Purpleheart neck laminates (the stripes)

The 2 Hanewinckel 6-stringers have Pau Ferro fingerboards and Flame Maple tops.  Necks are Maple with Wenge neck laminates.

Peace,

James
