dont laugh, but an old sitcom "Barney Miller" had a cool bassline in its theme music. "Sanford and son" i loved that theme song (still cant figure that bassline out though.) and michael jacksons "heartbreak hotel"  two of these basslines are broke down in my folder. peace.

I don't know if this really counts as a bassline.  Probably really just a song in itself, But victor wooten's amazing grace is my favorite

There's a song by Luther Vandross ( I can't remember the name of it) that was recently re-done by him, this time featuring Beyonce Knowles of Destiny's Child.  In the very beginning of the song, you hear a bass line...so pretty.

You know what?  I'ma go one better than my last.  It's a song by Chaka Khan back in the day that my father used to play for me when I was little.  "Tell Me Something Good".  That one!

Luvphillyman,

I get into "Tell Me Something Good" too.  It's one of the few secular songs that I can play and sing simultaneously.

Still, my favorite secular basslines are "Let's Work" by Prince (who is a VERY accomplished bassist) and  "Strawberry Letter 23" where Louis Johnson just lights it up.  I have the studio version, a live version (totally off the hook) and a live version with Larry Graham playing in with the Brothers Johnson.

My favorite gospel lines (so far) are "I Want My Destiny" and "Let Me Praise You Now", both off Fred Hammond's "Purpose By Design" cd and Terrance Palmer playing with Isreal & The New Breed on "Who Is Like The Lord"

Peace,

James
