Is this a good exercise
« on: December 12, 2003, 07:56:01 PM »
If I play each chord of a scale degree in the right hand (triad) then with my left I play the root and the fith of that chord. I think this would further reinforce the chords in every key. Shouldnt this help with modulation and transposition?

I would go up an the scale playing each chord, as fast as possible.
Lord help me learn the piano.

That's how I play everything.  The R and 5th in the Left gives me balance and lets me imply different ryhthmns on top of the base rythmn.  At first, I just used it for Minor 7th chords but eventually, it took over my left hand.
So now, for Majors and minors I alternate between; R 5/ 2357 and R 5/1357 and R 5/3579--most of the time.

Just make sure you practice going up the cycle of fourths (C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, F#, B, E, A, D, G).  That helps in modulating, transposing and MASTERING all keys.
