Cold Water

I was told that drinking cold water before you sing is "murder" to the vocal cords. Is this true? Lukewarm, hot or room temperature is better for the voice?

I've always been told that it tightens up your chords. I guess your chords are like chewed gum. If you drink ice cold water while you chewing gum, it gets all tough and hard to chew. So, I'm assuming that is similar. Why would you add something cold to something that is supposed to be warmed up? That is just what i've always thought. I'm going to ask my voice teacher and get back to ya with the correct answer, if mine isn't. Many blessings...

Yes, you are right. Cold water will constrict the vocal chord to the point where if you drink it before you sing, you will become hoarse! Lukewarm or better than that before you sing, room temp. water in a bottle will bless you real good! P

Please No hot water before you sing, cause it might damage your vocal chords!  BiSHOP cOLE

Yes, I was right...I guess it was more like commen sense, but yeah, NO hot water. That will make your chords raw.
