please help me understand the split chords im confused with how to play them also how many different chords do you play before repeating the song
All the chords I listed in the last post were for one complete cycle (1 verse) of the song...starting with "Falling in love..." and ending with "was the best thing I've ever, ever done".
The split chords, more commonly called 'compound chords' or 'slash chords', are as follows:
D/A = D triad / over A bass note = You play a D chord and emphasise an A note in the bottom.
This kind of compound chord could also be called a 2nd or 3rd inversion since it's made by shifting the notes of D major triad in a way to put either the 3rd note or the 5th note of the triad on the bottom rather than the D root note.
There are other compound chords that are not inversions...like G/E...there's no E note in a G major triad...although that chord could also simply be called Em7 since E is the relative minor of G...sorry, that's probably going somewhere we don't need to go right now.
