Quick Keyboard Course
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:48:29 AM »
Several people who heard me play want me to do keyboard lessons in their churches. This would be a good opportunity to advance myself both musically and financially, but I'm stacked as to how can I make the course arrangement for example:

I do;

1. Notes/ key names
2. scales theory
3. basic chords: Major, Minor, Dim, Aug
4. Scale degree chords, and then I'm stacked

The people here want something to get them feel playing as soon as possible, so I don't know a way to come up with something to get me going in this situation. Yes I do have all the information from this site but not much idea for this arrangement. Would you guys help me out please.

for parts 3 and 4 especially, you can break that up into beginner, intermediate and advanced because theres so much content you can cover under that umbrella.

as for playing ASAP, i would also add common chord progressions as a learning topic, but you should also cover practice regimens/habits/exercises, and something to begin to train ear as well as improve timing, which are just as important as notes and chords.
For my God... let "Golden Axe" prevail.

teach them songs and incorporate the 4 parts you mentioned into the songs or some other time during the lesson. They wont be happy if you dont teach them the songs that they play in their church.

Hear and Play came out with a program called Musician Transformation. Although you will not be able to purchase it, you can download it for free when you join GMTC. If you are unable or do not want to purchase the membership, I can give you some good links that coincide with it.

One thing is that you should make sure the lessons are targeted to the individual. It's a great thing for you becuase you can inspire others.

Some other concepts that you can teach are:

Theory-Blue Scales
The number system
Working to together as a band

I wish you all the best in your endevours
