My Sustain pedal keeps sliding!!
« on: August 13, 2009, 02:53:24 PM »
Am I doing something wrong? Is it my technique? When I start a song off, I'll have the sustain pedal in perfect position, but by the end of the song, its slides so far back that I can barely reach it!

The only thing I can think of is that maybe I am not sitting high up enough. But I can't help that. The chair is a regular church chair,  and I have the stand at the lowest possible setting. Is there anything else I can do? Maybe putting the amp in front of me? (Even though I really don't want to do that)

Sometimes glueing a sticky pad under the pedal will help. Something like a piece of indoor outdoor carpet turned upside down or maybe velcro. (that is, when the pedal is on carpet) I imagine that there must be some material that works on wood or that would work on both.

i always see people having to adjust the piano style ones, but the square one that i have, never get away from me. i think they just sit under ur foot better. probably some pedals may be more ideal for a particular surface (like carpet vs. hardwood). see if u can borrow or play on a different style/model pedal to see if u continue to have that issue.

Are you talking about the small square model? Aren't those the expensive ones? Lol. The one at the church is pretty much the basic model. And the one I have at home is similar to this and it does the same thing. I will look into that though. Thanks!

nah, im talking about the $15 yamaha one. bought it from guitar center a while back and its been reliable since day one. just bought another one wednesday (M-Audio) from sam Ash for $15 (let someone hold the other one and its locked up at their church this week and i had to play keys the rest of this week.

I use Creep-no-More for the piano-style pedal for my keyboard at home. Got it from - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CreepNoMore

Basically it's a fabric strip with a plastic backstop on one end. Works by keeping your heel on the floor while pedaling. Velcro or duct tape may work as well...

That's ghetto.

Walmart sells some rubberized material near the kitchenware. You can cut a square out of that and use it. It works really well.

Is that the Rubbermaid-type liner you put under the dish rack?

Yep. It comes in different colors too.

This is the stuff.

I think it's made by multiple manufacturers.

I was just thinking about this about 2 days ago! I'll probably pick up some later, and it should do the trick. Thanks
