Hey everybody.  A brotha just bought a keyboard and a book of chords last week.  I'm a rookie at learning to play by ear and I was wondering if anybody could help me out with some beginner exercises.  Easy keys to begin with, training my ear, fingerings, etc.  Whatever you can hook me up with, it's all good.  Currently, I'm just learning to finger different chords and figured out the theory behind some of the sounds.

Welcome to LGM.  Remember, ever key is easy as long as you practice it. :)

Since you are new, the first thing you should learn IMO is all 12 Major Scales.

"Listen to '4hisglory' that’s some good advice".

Hey 'Doubles22'

I just wanted to say welcome to LGM and I hope it will bless you and help you in a great way as it has me. I currently play by ear and the way I learnt was seriously to practice, practice, practice. I can play in 9 different keys fluently and still wanting to learn the 3 others, I will say this - IT WON'T BE EASY but with the help of God and others you will make it.

P.S. (MY FINAL PIECE OF ADVICE) Pray when you don't play and play when you don't pray.

Thanks for the response and the encouragement.  I'll do my best to make practice time because I'm tired of making excuses for why I haven't learned yet.  So far I get in about an hour and a half per day during lunch.  So I get to learn how to play without gaining a lot of weight.
