1. Major scales in every key w/both hands

2. Basic chords in every key, in every inversion, w/both hands

3. Pick a song or progression and play it through in all the keys

That's basically my practice.

Add that Basic Chords Practice post I did to your playing and it will give you a good challenge: http://forums.learngospelmusic.com/index.php/topic,22023.0.html

Trust me, I go through the root position pretty quick, but when I do it from the 1st and 2nd inversions, i have to really think about what I'm doing.

I was thinking about this post today or maybe it was not this one but this was the subject I wanted to focus on

I need a better routine i generally hate routines
so it is difficult to discipline myself to stuff over and over

but I am working out of a great book right now and I am making sure to follow it chapter by chapter without getting ahead of myself

when I was getting really good on the keyboard

my drill went like this

hanon 1-52 thats all i got up to

Scales minor harmonic and melodic and major and pentatonic and blues

in all keys

four octaves

(very slowly about 45 BPM

The 736251 in all twelve keys

all the basic tetrads in every inversion around the cycle

arppeggios

Reading bach inventions looping measure by measure singing and saying the letter names while playing

I burned out in about a year

My technique got real good but I simply burned out.

it took a year for me to get into good habits again

Tbl;ocks routine seems manageble not to much and just enough of what you need to keep your playing sharp
I still cannot play everything in every key and I know when I can I will have reached a new level

Thanks T-block

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

Me too, I can't play everything I know in every key, except for the slow stuff.  I am working hard on being able to play fast and shouting music in every key.

two things first how do you highlight what a person wrote so ui can answere soecifically a persons omment like you did mine in your last post

second I can only tell you wha people who play in every key tell me
you just have to play your repoirtoir in every key you start with a half step up and a half step down.

I never undertood that but now I do

there a r two types of positions on the piano

Db Eb Gb Ab Bb  and B all fit one type of shape

C D E F G A

represent the opposite shape this is why people who start out playing classical music and then learn to play favor E , A And D

I read somewhere that they are opposite shapes and it makes sense

As far as the shouting thing is concerned

I am starting with my lessons with Charles minor again
and he and I are doing shouts again

I will make sure I take the new things in every key since it is mostly tritones and thsy are prety easy to move I will let you know if this works

But I believe you reach a new levelonce you can do this

Well for musciians who love to play in db Eb Ab And Bb their fingers get used to the countor

the black keys are like mountains and the white keys are the ground well the E A D
are exactly opplosite in terms of shape highs and lows of the keyboard

the pinky that reached down for that f in the key of Db now has to reach up to F# in the key of D

and down to the four chord in the key of D when it reaches up to the four chord in the key of Db

na mean?

What you do is highlight the part from somebody's post, paste it in your reply window, highlight all of it again, then press the the qoute button on your toolbar.  It's the yellow button that looks like a speaking bubble in between the # button and the bullets button.

You know what, that is so very true right there.  I'm glad you pointed that out cuz you use most of the same fingerings and hand positions in all the black keys.  I never really paid attention to that until u said it.  And yes, classical people love to play in E, D, and A, but I hate those keys.  I'll play in them if I have too, but if I get an opportunity to modulate out, I will take with real quick.

Yeah, that's true right there.  I mean, I know them, but when I get put on the spot in them keys, it's like I forget everything I know.
