« on: March 20, 2006, 09:43:06 PM »
Can somebody explain the heel toe technique.  I'm looking for different methods to increase my foot speed.

Its a way for drummers to cheat working on real foot technique! Its a flicking action from your heel to toe to produce a double.

I wouldn't say it's cheating, but drummers would be better off using a regular technique.  There isn't much control or power in this technique, but that's just my opinion.

It's not cheating and there is plenty of control theire if you really learn it.

The heel-toe technique comes from tap dancing as back in the early days of the drumset most drumset players were tap dancers.

Get the Steve Smith DVD : Drumset Technique and The U.S. beat... he explains heel-toe and other foot techniques extremely well.

Speed comes from control learn how to control your foot. Your ankle should move for your feet  just like your wrist does for your hands as a hindge.

*** This guy posted by Anointed_Drummer is using waaaaaay to much leg. You do not need to bounce your leg like that all you need to do is rock your foot back and forth from the ball of your foot to your heel.

See this clip for a beter example: http://evansdrumheads.com/EVAMultimedia.aspx?VideoID=2650

I am only kidding! If there is an advanced technique, why is a natural response always: "Its cheating". I do not understand.

God bless.

For real.  I guess people learn to play a certain way, and they want to perfect THAT method.  But taking the time to learn another technique can only benefit you in the long run.

Yeah I had the same problem to cause I wear a size 13. So try this, 1st hit-heal up, 2nd hit-toe comes up a little and come down with you whole foot. Or you can try doing a doulble hit (like your doing a roll) and slow it down until you even out the hit's, Then slowly try to speed it up as you get better. Hope I've been helpful.

I wear a 12 and I can do it on a short Flying Dragon need be in Lugs boots. It is all about sticking the sweet spot and rocking from the ball of your foot to the heel while your ankle acts like a hindge. Focus the pressure to the ball of your foot while shifting the weight to and from your heel.

Study the Steve Smith video guys...
