New Bass....
« on: April 12, 2006, 07:46:47 PM »
I'm thinking of buying an Ibanez BTB555MP or BTB556MP I'm wondering if anyone here has one or has had any experience with one? I'd REALLY like to play a bass before I buy it but none of the stores here have it in stock but all can get it in for me if I want to buy it. If anyone has any experience with one please tell me what you think of it. Thanks ;D

the only one i've played i didnt care for although it may have been the set-up.. i have never had problems with ibanez and i've owned three sr series.. i have a old custom sr3000 5string and a neck-thru sr1200 4 string and like them both.. i would say ibanez for the buck is a good buy, you may luck out and get a good one without playing it.. but i'd recommend hands on, but when it doubt check EBAY out !! if you buy used and dont like it you can always re-EBAY it !!

Price range?
If you're talking under a grand my recommendations would be

  • Used Peavey Cirrus
  • Used Music Man Bongo (sorta like the one somebody ***cough*** me ***cough *** is selling now.)
  • Used Music Man Sting Ray
  • Used Lakland 55-02

Of course, these are my personal preferences.  YMMV

I, too also agree about ebay...note my pic on the left.

The Curbow 5 string and the Washburn XB600 (2nd and 4th from the right) came from ebay.  Interesting story with
the Curbow.  I won it from Greg Curbow's where he actuallly signed the bass as well as set it up.

So you see (imitating Forrest Gump) you never know what you're gonna get.

i havent played the 555, but i have a btb305 and i like it a lot.  i've had other more experienced people play it also and they like the feel and sound of it.  in my opinion it should be pretty good.

Any of the BTB's are good, you just have to find the right Amp to really bring out its capabilities. But its an excellent bass, and it feels real good when you play.
