keyboard sampling/sound

I want to invoke some thought about sampling on a keyboard.  When in a store and trying to figure out the best sampling, wouldn't it be better to hear how a sample (e.g., the keyboard’s piano or organ) sounds coming from an external amp and speakers?

I ask this because one keyboard could have a superior sampling, yet inferior amp and speakers; another keyboard could have superior amp and speakers, yet inferior sampling.  In the end, the sampling matters most because you’ll most likely be feeding your keyboard output through an external amp and speakers.

Maybe bringing in a good set of headphones would do the trick, instead of listening to the keyboard's sound through keyboards built-in amp and speakers...any thoughts?
