I have took a cheap 12" Wuhan china and drilled holes to
try to soften the sound of it.  It was real cheap like $6,
and I don't use it cause it sounds bad to me, too loud.
I got the idea after watching the Thomas Lang videos,
where he had 1 cymbal that had holes.  I figured why not
try since I don't like it anyway.  I drilled like 20 1/4" holes,
and its still too loud because of the thickness of the bell
I think.  May try drilling there also.  I need a china, but cant
find one i like.
Whats your idea?  Holla back

i took a 16" avedis thin crash and and it has a cool sound to it but hitting it by itself its not nearly as loud as it was prior to the hole drilling, its cool if you just put it on a stack i threw a 15" new beat top hi hat on top of it and thats my favorite cymbal now try that

I use a drill press. It's hard to mess up using one of those.

power tools brody, just a regular power drill with a 1/4 bit, get a belt sander too, that'll give you different sounds also
