NO......

modulate means to change the key

Transpose is to shift the chord......

For example, let's take Hez's new CD

"And because is the Greatest power, He shall not be defeated"  (No Defeat)  They are modulating

"Grateful Grateful Grateful Gratefulness"  (They are transposing the notes,  same key.....the tenors take the altos old note, the altos the old soprano, and sopranos the old tenor an octave up......

To modulate means to change from one key to the next key.  It usually involves some type of signal to go up.  It can be a chord, a note, or something like that.  Example:

C / C-E-G (old key C)
Ab / Bb-Db-Gb (modulation chord)
Db / Ab-Db-F (new key Db)

Sometimes people get the terms modulate and key change mixed up.  When you are modulating, there is usually a signal before it happens.  If there is no signal and you just jump right to the next key, then it is a key change.  Example of a key change:

C / C-E-G (old key)
Db / Ab-Db-F (new key)

To transpose means to take what's played in one key and play it in a totally different key.  Example:

C / C-E-G (C major chord)

I want to play this same chord in the key of Db

Major chord formula = 1-3-5 (scale degrees)

C major scale & degrees:  C=1  D=2  E=3  F=4  G=5  A=6  B=7
Db major scale & degrees:  Db=1  Eb=2  F=3  Gb=4  Ab=5  Bb=6  C=7

Db / Db-F-Ab (Db major chord)

You see the difference now?

lol...thanks for clearing that up T-Block.
Also I believe modulation usually signals a higher key, whereas transposition can be a higher or lower key.
