no, im not talking make your own truss rod im saying its going to take precision in drilling the hole for the truss rod to go into.. before you attach the neck to the body..

i guess a drill press would work but youd have to have one that you could mount the neck vertually on the floor because your drill bit would have to be a minimum of 36" long..and most presses i've seen have a table thats like 2' from the chuck.  how else would you drill hole?? accurately?? thats why if i built one for me this would be the only issue i think id have a struggle with, so my option would be to take it somewhere they could drill the hole for me, it'd have to be perfectly center cuz all your tension is on the neck, and if the rod is off a degree you could wind up with frets buzzing, or a crack in the wood later on..
keep in mind, im not at all familar with drill presses let alone drilling that length of wood, this is where im confused.. perhaps someone else has the answer??

anyone?? ideas??

acutally, the truss rod sits in a groove under the fretboard.  A hole is not drilled all the way through the neck.  Here's a picture from Ken Smith's website on how truss rod slots are made.

the truss rod was my main concern originally until I came across that page on Ken's website.

one of my concerns is where to put the frets, it seems they each have to be put in a very specific place on the neck.  i dont have that much patience.

they actually do have to be in a specific place or spacing.  check this website out.  here's where I've been getting ideas about pricing on materials that is needed to build my bass.  also they will send you a catalog if you want.

you know now that I think about it I'm goign to build a Tuner INTO my bass.  I'm thinking along the line of taking a tuner apart and wiring it into the system.  Then i'll go ahead and move the display screen into the wing and mount in on a 45 degree angle so you can see it while looking down at your bass from the playing posiiton.

I like this idea  ;D

most good basses weigh around 9lbs or more, yours will weigh 15lbs+ by the time you're done with it ;D :o
why stop with a tuner add a battery charger also ;D
