Specializing drum teacher
« on: May 22, 2006, 09:50:12 PM »
OK so today my drum teacher told me that that I should look for more of a jazz teacher since I'm gana hopefully try out for my schools jazz band. But I was thinking since I could pretty much read music(atleast to figure out how to play sheet music, still working on counting tho ;)) do i really need one?

Yes.

You wouldn't go to a foot doctor for a heart problem would you. There is more to playing jazz or any other music than just reading it. You have got to learn how to navigate it, interpret it, create it.

Until one becomes a Master he should always serve/study under one.
