I guess I still remain dumbfounded.  Music occurs in time.  I can't follow the time when the sound begins and ends.

The song begins at some time and ends at some time the time is not measured out with this system.  You pre suppose the reader knows the sound recording.  How is it counted? How is the beat diviided, or subdivided?

I can follow Left hand slash Right hand and the voicing from bottom to top or top to bottom, but  when does the chord start and when does it end. I have no reference.  Where are the words?  The words would give me some kind of reference.
The greatest mistake most amateur musicians make is giving up.  Don't give up !!!

It's up to the person posting.  I name chords when I post.

Yeah, with this method, you have to have heard the song first and have a good feel for it.  You would not be able to learn the song if you were given only the chords as written above, a quiet room and a piano.  However, think about it: there's no efficient way to use pure text to post standard sheet music with time signatures.

It's just a different method that seems to work for a lot of folks on this site.  Some of these cats on here can really jam, and they use this method of chording to learn and teach songs.  Thus, when in Rome...

I agree with you, in part benjimatt. It would be a great learning tool to start naming chords, however at the same time we have to take into account that some of the readers do not know chords names at this point in their playing. (We all have been there) so why dont we do both?
ex

LH/RH
Ab/ C- Eb - Ab (AbMaj 1st inversion)
It would help both the "novice" player, as well as cut down the reading time for the "more advanced" player.
Nah mean?lol

2. The Conventional Way from a web site that I cannot quite recall the URL
In The Sanctuary - Kurt Carr     Bass is on the Right of the slash

Verse:
Cm            Ab/F             Bb   Eb
We lift our hands in the sanctuary.
Cm            Ab/F        Bb              Eb
We lift our hands to give you the glory.
Cm            Ab/F       Bb              Eb Bb/D Cm
We lift our hands to give you the pra-a-ise,
                 Ab/F                     Bb             Eb Bb/D Cm
and we will praise you for the rest of our  d-a-a-ys.
                 Ab/F                       Bb           Eb
Yes, we will praise you for the rest of our days.

 (We clap our hands...)
 (We sing our song...)
 (Hallelujah in the...)

Ab Eb         Bb             Eb
Jesus,  we give you the praise.
  Ab Eb            Bb            Eb
Emmanuel, we lift up your name.
   Db       Ab                   Bb  B Cm
 Heavenly Father, coming  Me-ss-iah,
              Ab/F                Bb            Eb
We will praise you for the rest of our days.
Cm             Ab/F                    Bb           Eb
Yes, we will praise you for the rest of our days.

Of course, I will choose No. 2 every time. Who wouldn't? It is simple, methodical and logical to read and I was playing and singing the song in less than 10 minutes.  The No. 1 looks very busy, too busy in fact, and as you said it is for the cats who can really jam.  If you want to play and sing as well, No. 1 is not easy to do.

But one can always convert chords/notes from the No. 1 type to the No. 2 type, manually as one wishes.

Nice explaination...

This is just to say kudos to the Administrator of this site -- 4hisglory. He is really on top of the situation on this site. I wrote a response yesterday to How to chord Songs. 4his glory has responded promptly today with the article named below where two chord types are also delineated. Please read the article:
