A l-o-o-ot of people hate her, immensely.  This ought to be an inspiration to any of you who have people hating you or trying to gun you down, musically speaking.  I can't get enough of her...

Someone on here (I beleive it was Uriah), said some of the baddest musicians arn't even known.

How about Alphonso Johnson?

Nah I undersatnd that, but I'm just saying he asked for people he coud listen to. I've never heard of them on any albums and especially not any solo albums, not to degrade them as bassists, I'm just not sure you could learn from them if you've never heard them.

Comment about Carole Kaye:

I've seen numerous forums where she give advice on playing bass and she'd eventually start getting nasty, nasty feedback from many different people; men, I presume.  In some of her interviews she spoke about her dealings with the other musicians in the past, outside of her circle.  Of all their hangups, I think that the biggest one was probably they don't like when another man can play equally or better than them, but what about a woman...

I'll look around and see if I can find some of these forums.

There is a smoldering debate around several songs that Carol Kaye claims credit for that are credited to James Jamerson.  Some of the debate on this subject is not intended for children.  A couple examples of songs that are credited to Jamerson that Carol Kaye claims as her work....

  • Bernadette - The Four Tops
  • I Was Made To Love You - Stevie Wonder

These are probably the two most hotly contested songs.

Peace,

James

I could recomend pretty much every player mentioned already, but here's a few others that you may of heard performing on songs on the radio:

Bernard Edwards (Chic)
Ray Brundidge (James Brown)
Mark King (Level 42)
Stuart Zender (Jamiroquai)
Shaun Ward (Simply Red)
Donald 'Duck' Dunn (Otis Redding, Wlison Picket, Elvis Presley - to name but a few!)
Larry Graham (Sly & The Family Stone)
Paul McCartney (Beatles - lets not forget he wrote some bad *** bass lines!)
Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band)
Doug Wimbish (Mos Def, Living Colour, Mick Jagger, Rolling Srones, Annie Lennox, Madonna)
Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, King Crimson)
