Snare Wires???????

I was looking at snare wires on the web and I wanted to ask what was the different sounds different snare wires made.....like whats the difference if the snare wires are copper, steel or any other snare wire material???? Also how do more snare strands affect the snare sound???? Thanks for the help guys...........God Bless

I believe he does mean Sonor. I would check out Pure Sound too. They explain the snare count pretty well. I dont think they go into construction though.

Im going to get some puresounds because the my stock Premier 20-strand snare wires got messed up.........whats the difference between the Blasters and the Custom 13" 20-strand???

The blasters are more of the mass production style wires but still made to Puresound quality.
I love their SUPER 30 model... They're great!

But you might wanna widen your snare bed for the 30's that is if your snare has a good bed to begin with...

I'm playing the Fat Cat Snappy snares.  They are really effective for controling lively drums.  My 7x13 is a pretty lively drum and they sound really great on there.  The good thing about them is that they are marketed as saying " you can have 2 snares in one" and "eleminates the need for having 2 throw-offs".  Its pretty dope in the fact that you can adjust the inner snares to make them looser or tighter than the outer snares.  It does take some time to find the perfect adjustments to get the sound that you're looking for.

I've also used the Grover snares.  They are a completely different sound.  Those snares have almost NO coil to them.  They have a really unique sound too.

Do the homework.

Do you think the Puresound Custom 13" 24-strand will sound better than the 20-strand ??? will it make it more drier or more crisp?

Those wires are strictly for Concert snares  -  rudimental competition, solos, orchestral/symphonic music. The drums they are one are designed for them, to maximize their sound.

If ever there was a drum that required skill as mandatory Concert snares are it.... and timpani.

This is what I'm talking about....
I usually put these on the snares I build. I put an extra wide snare bed on the snare when I use these....
The were dropped off by UPS yesterday...

Pure sound brah. Infact if you go to the puresound site, they breake down the difference between each of thier types of snare wires and they have sound clips. I went through the same process ealier this year so I feel your pain. But check out puresound. PLus hey if your a big Gerald fan, He endorses them as well

Hey Rick,

Give me the low down on the new Puresound Matrix wires. I saw them at the store a couple days ago... black coated steel. Whatcha know 'bout that?

I am thinking baout changing out the stock wires on my 14" x 3.5" copper Free-Floater
