lubricating oil? (Rick, Jfunky, Sabe??)
« on: June 27, 2006, 01:27:23 PM »
Hey y'all, I need to lubricate my lugs on my snare.  Does WD-40 work just as good as actual drum oil?  My tension rods get stuck sometimes...

I use a little Petroleum Jelly on the tension rods when I put drums together.

MrWhite, I actually forgot about that. I remember arguing on this board about Kobe - but I don't remember who I was arguing with. You and I have haven't interacted enough yet. I'm sure I'll remember you from now on, tho'. You probably remember me, because I've been so overly opinionated in just about every forum on LGM, lol....

...I would take Rick's advice since he is a Pro at what he does.  All I know is to use "White Lithium Grease" on the bass drum pedals.  On the drum rods I really don't know. 8)

Man... Why didn't I think of this before.

Thanks for the heads up on the vaseline. Now I don't have to keep buying drum oil.

Never use WD-40 on drum gear. Gunk makes a Heavy-Duty Silicon spray in a yellow can that is much better. Pick itup at Home Depot or other hardware store.

I have been told several times that WD-40 actually causes a breakdown in the metal of drum parts... doing more damage than good. I cannot say that I have seen it happen but I try not to use it.

Gibralter makes a drum oil as well for pedal parts.

I agree there's something about WD-40 that I just can't bring myself to put on my drum parts. I think it's to runny anyway.
