Pentatonic Scale and Run
« on: July 14, 2006, 10:37:47 PM »
Pentatonic Scale - Key of C
First let me start with the pentatonic scale
C,D,E,G,A,C

These notes can be played in runs/trills through almost any chord in the key of C (try with a song in key of CMaj-playing notes at above at random)- tranpose to other keys it works the same.  Also this is how I find a key quickly if I am lost on a song.  If I don't hear the key right off the back, I can play these notes in different keys while a song is being played or sung and it tells me what key the song is in without me having to guess.  For those that question scales, this is 1 reason why they are important to learn.
RH - Fingering 1=thumb and so on...,2,3,4,5=Pinky

Example - Downward Run (Start Slow in Rhythm at first - octave or 2 above middle C)
1. C,A,G,E,A,G,E,D,G,E,D,C,E,D,C,A,C
1. 5,3,2,1,3,2,1,2,5,3,2,1,4,3,2,1,2 or 5 to continue repeating downward

I'll take this a step further and go into blues pentatonic in my next post on the subject.

This is a little ruff, did it quickly, but Midi example should help.

1. Slow to work fingering, accuracy
2. Speed it up
3. Application
