What is the average fee for private lessons?
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:42:09 PM »
Dear LGM Family,

I pray that you can help me.  It's been a while, but I want to get back into teaching private woodwind/piano lessons.  What is the average fee most musicians charge for private lessons these days?  Per hour or 1/2 hr.?  Does the amount matter if the student is a beginner, intermediate, or advanced?

Thanks for the feedback!  God bless you!

I have a friend that has offered to pay me $15 to $20 an hour to teach his 7 year old son to play the alto sax. With 1 hour per week. I don'tknow if that is average or not, but that is what he is willing to pay. I have never taught lessons before.I would like to see the responses you get also.

I'm in the Houston, TX area. And around here, music lessons will be ABOUT $50 a month. That's for one 30-minute session each week. So I guess it averages out to $25 per hour. That's what I charge my students.

Hope this helps.
It's God's way. . . or Hell to pay

Visionmike and Baldeagle, thanks for the feedback.  Yes, it is helpful.  I was thinking between $20-$25 myself.  Just wondering what my LGM family thinks is appropriate.

Thanks again!    ;D

I charge my students $15 per half and hour and I do not teach anything less than an hour lesson.  My thoughts are that you only just get warmed up the first thirty minutes and then it is time to go.
