That makes two of us VT!  Remember the days when we used to march in?!?!?   8)  And don't let us have a concert, I used to come up with some sweet marches, and depending which choir some of the "seasoned" saints would have to walk up to the choir stand while we marched in.  ha-ha-ha-ha  those were the days.   ;D
If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be!!!

Yeah I think the choir will be back soon. People are going to get tired of this. Sorry to the Worship leaders but Im starting to see many P&W leaders get out of hand. Some acting crazy because people are not worshipping like them or they feel they are the expert on how to worship God. I have seen this at the church I play at and at my church. I was at a service at my church the other week and one sister grabbed the mic and everything slowed down. She even slowed down the fast songs to a drag.

When I get my chance things will change too. :D Choir lovers lets take back the kingdom.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

I didn't even know choirs were gone. I had this discussion with somebody last week. I didn't even know what a P&W leader was. Of course, I attend a traditional Baptist church, but honestly never stepped outside of it too much to know. I guess in my community, choirs are still pretty strong. Is this just a regional thing or does it vary by denominations.

There are still some baaad choirs out there, but I think the decrease in the choirs is the "me" mindset. This can be seen in Kirk Franklin's previous choirs, not the current group of awesome singers he has now, but in the Family and GP. He said on BET that he and those groups would still be cool if they never recorded albums together, People are concerned about their own ministry and not ministry in itself. Many people I've known, in my lil 17 years of life lol, have left a choir for not getting solos or not getting enough solos. They are forgetting that, although getting paid and recognized is good, ministering to God's children is much better!

At our church, we haven't had our choir for almost 2 years now, ever since we've moved into a new building. I never got a clear reason why our choir was broken up. Don't get me wrong, the Praise & Worship team we have is good, but my Mom has always asked me when are we going to get our choir back, and recently I have been wondering that myself!  ?/?

Here in Birmingham, Alabama choirs are still strong among the larger churches. My home church (New Hope Baptist) has a mass choir of over 150 people. But the smaller non-denominational churches are centered around the praise teams.

DITTO!

LONG LIVE CHOIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Choirs have not, nor will they ever fade. People have this mistaken notion that choirs are "en passe". Why? Tye Tribbett and G.A. is a what? CHOIR!! Not to mention we still have so many other currently billboard chartng projects that are CHOIR projects. Not to mention the fact that as long as C.O.G.I.C. and Apostolic and even Baptist churches are around, there will ALWAYS be choirs, and choirs will always have an audience in gospel music!

Tye & G.A. are an ensemble.

Georgia, Mississippi, Colorado, New Jersey....those are choirs. James Cleveland had a choir.

Now, before anybody gets they knickers in a knot, this is simply an opinion.

Is the P&W group eliminating the Choir?
« Reply #18 on: August 23, 2006, 03:02:18 PM »
I'm hearing this buzz and notion that the P&W movement is destroying the traditional church choir.

Points I have heard are

1. You can do more with a smaller (trained) specialized group than a mass choir.

2. Better voices in Ensembles and P&W groups

3. Better material

4. Less to deal with (attitudes, characters & personalities)

5. More selective with a smaller group.

What are your thoughts? I'm seeing it a little bit too

. :)

Yes, it seems that choirs were so 90's and chorals are so new millenium.  I think the recording industry has helped fuel this too.  Some of our favorite artists are recording mostly with chorals - Kurt Carr, Kirk Franklin, and Israel Houghton to name a few.
