Personally, I think saxophone is one of the easiest horns to learn. The fingerings are straight forward - almost just like the recorder everybody learned how to play in elementary school. And... since you already have a background in piano and drums, you already understand lots of the ins and outs of music, rythym and melody that many beginners do not... So I say... GO FOR IT!! Have fun!
Take care and be blessed!  Ps 16

dfwkeys:

the price you gave is mighty low for a decent quality horn, was it used?

brands to look for -

armstrong
conn
selmer ($$)
king
vito
yamaha ($)
yanangisawa
jupiter

avoid anything made on the cheap in india, china, pakistan.  they mostly don't last long & repairmen sometimes won't even try to fix 'em.  some of these can be identified by the 'look-alike' brand names (selmar instead of selmer, etc.)

you'll need a box of reeds...1st of many, heh heh heh...

what brand did you find online?
let me know if i can help.

taught sax since '72
