Just remember a run or riff is just made up of scales either played in it's entirety or broken parts

a run can be made up of the melody of the song you're playing or just parts of it

a run can be an arpeggio just a broken chor played in a diff seqence instead of 1 3 5 or 5 3 1  you can play it 1635

I did a post quite a while back on runs and riffs so do a search under that or musmin7 and you should be able to find it

it has a midi file with it for an example.
