I know a lead/acoustic guitarist that plays bass. He can do chords and bass at the same time/syncopated; however, he's a much better guitarist that bassist.

Our bassist, WHEN HE"S THERE, throws in a chord every now & then. I throw one in every once in a while, when I play!!! I like ending a song with a phat chord on the bass!!

Peace.

Chords are very kewl, if they fit the song. Like ElderE said its really nice to fill out the bottom end at the end of a song.

I play chords actually pretty often, the only reason it fits though is because we don't have a lead guitarist. When I play at churches that have lead guitarists, I don't play them as often.

I never play chords on my bass. I switched to the bass because I don't like playing guitar chords. I may change my mind down the road but right now I don't play chords. .....Piano chords, Yes..........Guitar chords, No..........

cords are great to thicken your sound  even if you just hit the 3rd on the g string
