I encourage you all to listen to Maynard Ferguson, any of his bass players that he uses is so sick you would think they have a cold. It is awesome, although he is jazz i am truly blessed by his music. He is a trumpet player and one of the best, there is no joking around with him. I encourage songs such as:

Chameleon
Hit in the Head
Admirals Horn
Gospel John
Birdland

Those ones to get started

Oh and Jaco Pastorius he is the greatest bass player that ever lived, though he is very dead, HE WAS VERY GOOD

Be blessed

No doubt, nobady can touch Maurice Fitzarald, also there's a 19 year old cat named justin that plays with Karen Clark-Sheard. He is sick, but he's very humble.

Victor Wooten
Marcus Miller
Abraham Laboriel
Jaco Pastorius
Fred Hammond
John P. Kee's bassist (don't know the brother's name but he is BAD)
Andre Gouche

Am I alone in being enamored of the late Tim Linzy who could keep up with the complex chord progressions of Smallwood?

Hey I am new to this site and am an up and coming bass player.

Has anyone ever heard Kirk Franklins bass player Keith Taylor.  He is sick and kills that smith 6 string on intro to "Love" off of the Gods property album.  I also am a fan of Pino Paladino and Braylon Lacy badu's current bass player.

As far as technique, Jaco Pastorious.  This guy was a technical genius.
As far as sound and style,  Victor Wooten has to be one of the most talented bassists I've heard.

Hey yall.
I am new here, and like you all I am trying to come up on the bass.
I have a list of some guys that I think are nice.  Since there are so many bass players with different styles, I decided to break up the categories a bit.  These are some gospel bass players that I have seperated into groups.  This is just my opinion.  Feel free to comment...... no particular order.

Groove guys
1. Maurice Fitzgerald
2. Sharay Reed
3. Terrance Palmer

Technical Guys
1. Reggie Young
2. Andre Gouche

Up & Coming
1. Dwayne Wright
2. Tony Russell

I don't know where to put this guy, but he plays a mean bass (4 Strings with the detuner for the low B) Reggie Parker. Fred Hammond as well is a genius with some of those bass lines.
Other fantastic notables outside church include Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Roy Hargrove's bass player (can't remember his name), Jaco, Victor Bailey etc....
I am hearing a lot of names out there of guys I don't know so if yall know any sites and albums where i can find them, let me know.

Thanx a lot & God Bless
  I won't write this much again   :D
