C to G modulation on guitar
« on: June 26, 2004, 11:31:51 PM »
Hello, saints. I thought I'd share an easier C to G modulation that a good friend just showed me tonight.

I usually play the G on the second and third frets and the C on the first, secong and third, which makes modulation harder unless you are really skilled and rehearsed. A friend showed me a shortcut . . . and the chords sound rich, too!

For the chords below, I am considering the low E the 1st string, and the high E the 6th string, okay? Now

C: little finger on 6th string / 3rd fret.
ring finger on 5th string / 3rd fret
index finger on 4th string / 2nd fret
middle finger on 3rd string / 3rd fret
Strum from 2nd string down

G: little finger on 6th string / 3rd fret
ring finger on 5th string / 3rd fret
index finger on 2nd string / 2nd fret
middle finger on 1st string / 3rd fret
Strum all six strings.

Now, see that you are anchoring the little finger and the ring finger, and only moving the top two fingers. This makes the modulation SOOOO much easier! In fact, if you are playing a song like "Lord, I Lift Your Name On High" you can play just about the whole song with two fingers grounded, because just about the the whole song is G, C, D over and over again.

Hope this inspires someone to practice that guitar!

Be Blessed!
