Working with people who don't know what they are doing.
« on: December 11, 2006, 04:58:41 AM »
Hello to all. I have been dealing with an issue for some months now, and finally during yesterday's service, I got my answer. Just for a little background, I attend a Military Chapel Ispirational Gospel Service. The unwritten motto is (GET IN WHERE YOU FIT IN). We have people everywhere! Now my issue was how were the auxilary leadres picked. Some are on contract and others are not. If these leader are to report to the Pastor, why weren't any of these people picked by the Pastor. Now some positions were filled prior our Pastor's arrival, however, the Pastor should at least know who they are.

I'm currently the head musician for our service as well as the Praise and Worship leader. As long as I have been here; Praise and Worship, Choir, and Musicians have been separate. So yesterday after months and months of questioning of who is over the Music Ministry, the Pastor puts a slide up on the big screens saying these are our church leaders. Mind you all I was concerned about was the MOM.  I feel that there are a hand full of people who are qualified for the position, but the choir director ,who is least qaulified, has the job. This person can't play music, read music, give parts, provide theory, or anything. They just know how wave their hands. And it never fails, when rehearsal day comes, this person isn't prepared. This bothers me cause I'm stuck doing their job. Finding songs, giving parts, accepting and declining engagements, determining practice times, etc... The kicker is, while I was on vacation, this person also took the liberty of combining the Praise and Worship team with the general choir. Now the whole (congregation  :D) is on stage during Praise and Worship. I've wanted to quit a lot of days but I stay because I'm called to minister through music and  for the groups. They look to me for guidance and answers. I try to give the best advice possible, while at the same time, remind them to consult with the director (now MOM).

I need some encouragement so please family, keep me in your prayers.

Sometimes Pastors have a sense about whos time it is to be in leadership.  When our first mom left due to personal issues, I was the interim.  Mind you I was doing all the work etc etc but never given the title.  My pastor spoke to me about it and filled me on some things I never thought about.  If the people dont except you they are not going to except your ministry or where you're trying to lead them....even though we all saved and GOD has anointed me to do what I do they just aint going to go.

So for the betterment of the kingdom, others have to be put in place regardless of their credentials.  My advice: do what you do unto the Lord.  Do what you can to make the leader look good because it makes the TEAM look good.  Without you it would be hard for them to do what they do so you have to look at each person doing their part to make the team look good.

A lot of times some people do more but who are you doing it for?  If you are doing it unto GOD then it really doesnt matter whos doing what.  Its hard to get that mentality sometimes but I guarantee you will feel better and will be able to worship and minister effectively.

Our current Min of Music is musically gifted.  She can gift parts and teach a song just not play an instrument.  I can do all three but I dare not override her because she is graced to be where she is.  Im an example and show my cooperation and participation by following.  Thats the best way to be a leader is to show that you can follow!  I could have bucked the system and give her a hard time b/c Im not the MOM but I understand its not my season.  Im growing so much and developing in other areas musically until thats not even important anymore.

Just remember do what you do for GOD.  He'll fight for you.
