Need a Cutting Snare!
« on: October 25, 2007, 07:34:38 PM »
Look, I need something that Is going to cut through the music. The Sashi or the LXE Birdseye Maple aren't doing to job for me. I want something that is going to be lively. I was thinking abut going with a Metal Shell but, Its a hard Decision. I have a couple of candidates for the position ;D.

Tama Metal Works 6.5/14

Yamaha Brass 7/14

Pacific Hammered 5.5/14 :( :-\ ?/?

Pork Pie "Big Black"

DW Nickle 5.5/14

I know that it's not on your list, but I'd consider the Mike Bordin Siggy, if you're wanting some 'cut'.

Dude, something that will cut through anything is the 13" x 7.5" Joey Jordison steel!

I'm not kidding dude this thing is LOUD! Everyone who hears it loves it, no joke. Get some sand paper and take off the demon insignia.

I'm a huge fan of the Pork Pie, little squealer 13x7

Also hit up the DW edge snare, the perfect combination of wood and steel to meet you drummmin' needs ;)

The Big Black is a bangin snare.  I switched out the stock rims for Die Cast hoops.  It gets the job done.  A metal snare is going to be inherently louder than a wood snare.  Aluminum and steel are going to be at the brighter end of the spectrum.  Bronze and brass are going to be towards the darker end.

Take your time and do your homework.

Good luck

Yeah your right about that Brass. I checked the Yammy Brass out and it was on the darker side. Then across the room was a Yammy Steel. I liked the steel alot better. I like my snares to be able to breathe and have some ring to it but not too much. I going to check out some of the ones that you guys suggested. I sure as heck know that I cant afford that EDGE :-\ :'(.

The Jordison is Develish ;D My experieces with it were not so great. I think that it was the way they were tuned and the head choices that the guys chose. Maybe with the right tuning and head choice it could get the job done.
