Lesson # 2 (Songo Part 1 and Part 2) Afro Cuban Rhythms
« on: April 04, 2007, 10:07:04 PM »
What's up LGM Family!!

Hey I just wanted to share another lesson that I feel it's pretty cool.  The rhythm is called Songo, but this is not the normal "church" Songo (Hispanic Drummers know what I"m talking about LOL).  This clip is more to help you how to start your songo and also kind of like a New York/New Jersey Songo.  It may seem really complicated, but I'm in the process of putting a video together for you guys.  I just want it to be really legit and organized, so EVERYONE can learn and expand their vocabulary!!  Take care and God Bless.  Enjoy...

p.s. The tracks are a little long, but there's tons of information on there.  Notice:  This was on the fly and is a little unorganized.  The next ones I'll promise to be a little more organized!!!

...that's my dude right there.  Some of the things you're talking about I already do like the 8th notes on the toms and moving it around with the left hand and stuff.  Now my issue is getting away from the "Common Bass Drum Pattern" and the upbeats on the hihats instead of the downs.  You already know what I'm talking about because I've spoken to you about it.  Anyway, dude, you sound so clean and your DW sounds killin'.  Keep reppin' man.

LOL  ;D you're a clown!!  I know it seems like ALOT of information, but I'll try to shed some light on it if you ask me...It's kind of hard to explain if you don't really know notation.  However, I'll try to hook you guys up with a PDF of this stuff, but no promises.  It takes some time to put it on Sibelius and I don't know if I really have the time.  However, IF there's an overdemanding request then I'll do it.  I'm just trying to share as much as I can.  Take care and God Bless.

...man, quit playing.  All of the information is all ready written on the "Conversations In Clave" book by Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez.

...Big "C", your time is valuable.  I feel like you've done your job on shedding some light.lol

I'm sorry about the links..I had it on yousend it and after I think it's a hundred downloads it expires.  Give me your email address and I'll hook you up with them.  However, I'll see what I can do.  Take care and God Bless.

Carlito

p.s. can someone who has downloaded these files hook us up.  I only know how to send it through yousendit.com
