Clear or coated...???

I've been hearing some talk of experiment with some heads and what not and I wanted to know what ya'll have been trying and what you think works?

Have you tried using all clear heads on your snare, or have you tried the Vinnie Coliauta set up and used all coated heads on your toms? Or maybe all coated heads on your snare?

I'm just trying to get away from the ordinary a little bit and see what else is out there...So if you don't mind help a brotha out! Thank you in advance

I have a deliberate mixture on the set at church to achieve the sound that I envisioned.

As for the snare?  Well, the music store installed a clear Pinstripe in '89.  It was ringy.  Thinking back on that sound, it's not my bag, baby, yeah...

Yo doc i use Evans EC2 coateds on the toms, EMAD2 coated on bass, and Remo PS3 coated on a few of my snares, or Emp coated. So i use coated on everything, but the EC2s have a translucent coating on them.

I have clear G2's on my toms but im switching to all coated Emperors or G2's for a warmer, more controlled sound... ...For my snare all i use is coated heads!

Me personally, I dont like coated heads, but they are amazing when you play jazz on them!!!!!!!!!!Clear is still better for other styles of music in my opinion.
