Can anyone play B Diminished
« on: August 10, 2004, 07:30:34 AM »
I have a song and I can play it on the piano but I want to play it on a guitar.  It has the following chords

A Minor
B Dim
C Major
D Minor
E Major

I can paly all the chords except B Dim as I cannot find a logical way of palying the notes B, D and F on a guitar.  Please not that the C major is middle C and the chords are within the same octave.  Its just moving up the A minor scale and stopping at E.

This chord can be played 2 ways:
Open position (Low E is 6 string):  6---X
                                                 5---X
                                                 4---open (D)
                                                 3---1 fret (Ab)
                                                 2---open (B)
                                                 1---1 fret (F)
Bar chord: bar at frets 1 or 4 or 7 or 10. then at first fret below bar, play string 5. at second fret below bar play strings 4 and 2.

Hope this helps,

You can also play it as an A-shaped Barre chord.  It's the same theory as on piano--flat your 3rd and your 5th.  Hope you can TAB

e-----2----------------
b-----3----------------
g-----4----------------
d-----3----------------
a-----2----------------
E---------------------

Barre the 2nd fret, 1st finger, 2nd finger on D3, 3rd finger on B3, pinky on G4.

Hope that helped

POINTER FINGER ON E ON THE A STRING 2ND FRET

MIDDLE FINGER ON C# ON THE B STRING 2ND FRET

RING FINGER ON B ON THE D STRING 4TH FRET

PINKY ON G# ON THE HIGH E STRING 4TH FRET

PLAY IT ONCE,,,THEN SLIDE THE WHOLE CHORD UP 1 AN 1/2 STEPS OR 3 FRETS
(OR A MINOR 3RD UP)
YOU WILL BE SLIDING THE WHOLE CHORD UP SO IT STARTS ON THE 5TH FRET NOW.....SLIDE IT UP TO THE 8TH FRET....KEEP SLIDING!
YOU WILL FIND IT IS THE SAME EVERY 3 FRETS!

SO WHERE IT SAYS PLAY B DIM ....START WHERE I SAID....THEN FOR EACH BEAT THAT YOU ARE HOLDING THE B DIM....SLIDE UP OR DOWN
....

I'm confused...

Quote
POINTER FINGER ON E ON THE A STRING 2ND FRET

This note's a B...

Quote
RING FINGER ON B ON THE D STRING 4TH FRET

This note's an F#...

Help me out here.  I'm thinking that makes a B6sus2 (the G# is your 6th, the C# is your 2nd).  If you move it to the 5th fret, it's a D6sus2, then at the 8th, it's an F6sus2.  The chord does change, it just may still "fit" tonally.

Do you use a different than standard tuning maybe?

Just curious.

Rules aside, my first question was how you got an E on the 2nd fret of the A string (which should be a B), and a B on the fourth fret of the D string (which should be an F#).

I'm sure that what you described sounds killer over a Bdim, I was just confused by your notation, that's all.

Wasn't trying to be critical of your tastes, or anything.

Got the pic.  Thanks.  The chord in the pic is a dim.  I was just confused because the way you wrote it out above, the fingering was on the 2nd and 4th frets (in which my voicings were right), but the pic had it starting in the 3rd and 4th frets, which is a dim.

I got it.

the pic was to show you the fingering...but the chord to be "b" dim should start on the 3rd fret then slide to the 6th fret...then the 9th and so on!
hope it sounds good....
