What I'm I doing wrong...?

I'm running my scales up tha neck 'bout the time i get to the 12th fret my left hand is in ah lil pain. is it i'm holding tha neck to tight?? my thumb action??.. any Suggestions....

You need to treat the neck of the bass like you would a woman.  Don't give the bass an Ike Turner Grip...LOL.  Loosen up and relax.

There is a reason we (male) musicians prefer to refer to our instruments as women.  Treat your woman right, and she'll treat you right.  ;D

That's pretty funny... especially considering IKE was a guitar player...  :-\

You can practice on your forearm... act like your forearm is the neck of the bass, so you can see how much pressure you are applying... you bass won't holler when it hurts, but hopefully you will.. :)

try playing without your thumb that should help, and when you start using your thumb again you will put less pressure on the neck, because your used to runing your scales with out your thumb thats where the pressure comes from so put less pressure on your thumb.
