HHX Ozone vs. A costom EFX.
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:29:44 AM »
Check this, I had my HHX Evo Ozone for a little bit. I love it sooo much! My other friend has a A custom EFX i havent heard it yet,but he's telling me how much "better" it sounds than any ozone he's ever heard. He told me that it is darker and trashier than the ozone. I wouldn't think so because A customs are known to be bright. Now i will say the holes will darkin the sound a little bit but not dramatic. So my Question is has anybody heard both? I haven't. So Please LGM, help me out.

...tell your friend he doesn't know what he's describing.  The O-riginal "Ozone" is the darker and trashier out of both no matter what the A Custom EFX cymbal sounds like.  What a joke. lol  It's obvious he doesn't have an ear for cymbals yet. :-\  How old is the drummer in question?

....Where is Sabian Product Specialist j_kay when you need him ?/?  ;D ;D lol.

Both are trashy, however, to my ears, the HHX has the edge in the trashy quality that both cymbals possess.

What gives the HHX the edge is the weithg of the cymbal, the bell size, which gives it a little more sustain and wobble.  The (larger) holes diffuses the air, giving it more trash qualities than a regular crash cymbal.  Oh yeah, the larger hammering combined with the smaller lathing also makes the tone more complex (initial tone being high, then simmers to a lower tone) than the A Custom EFX, which has the narrow lathing and smaller pneumatic hammering.

All in all, it just depends on what you like to hear - a bright trash or a dark trash.  You can't lose with either one.  If you're a baller, get them both.  let us know how it turns out for you.
