I memorized the formulas for each chord.  I'm really big on learning music theory, so I just put everything into numbers and it helps me not only learn better, but also to play better in every key w/out the whole taking everything up a 1/2 step process.  Here's a chord chart I posted in the music theory room to help you:

As far as how do I use some of those chords u posted, I'll pick some and show you:

Quote
CBb/CFG         C7sus4
CG/BbEG         C7

I use these 2 chords together as a 5 in the key of F:

C / Bb-C-F-G (5)
/ Bb-C-E-G (5)  *F slides to E, hold everything else down
F / A-C-F (1)  *resolution chord

Quote
CBb/CEG#        C7aug

I use this chord as a 3 in the key of Ab:

C / E-Ab-Bb-C (3) *G# changed to Ab
F / Eb-G-Bb (6) *resolution chord

A variation to that chord would be the C7 #5/#9, used in the same way:

C / E-Ab-Bb-Eb (3)
F / Eb-G-Bb (6)

Quote
CBb/DbEG         C7b9

I use this chord as a 6 in the key of Eb:

C / Bb-Db-E-G (6)
F / Cb-Eb-F-Ab (2)  *resolution chord
Bb / Bb-Eb-G (5)  *resolution chord for that one, lol

Quote
CG/DEG             Cadd9

I use this chord anytime I have a C major chord to play:

C / C-D-E-G
C / D-E-G-C
C / G-C-D-E

Quote
C/BbDEG           C9
CG/BbDF          C11

I use these 2 chords as a secondary dominant on 1 in the key of C:

C / F-Bb-D (1)  *sometimes i omit the G
C / E-Bb-D (1) *sometimes i omit the G
F / E-A-C (4)  *resolution chord

Quote
CE/BbDF#         C9#11b5

I use this chord as a passing/filler chord when going to 4 in the key of Gb:

C / E-Bb-D-Gb (#4)  *F# changed to Gb
Cb / Bb-Db-Gb (4)  *resolution chord

Quote
C/BbDEA           C13

I use this chord during shouting/preaching time no matter what key:

C / Bb-E-A-C

Quote
CBb/CEbG          Cm7

I use this chord as a 6 in the key of Eb:

C / Bb-Eb-G (6)

Quote
CBb/CEbGb        Cm7b5

I use this chord as a 2 in the key of Bb:

C / C-Eb-Gb-Bb (2)
F / D-F-Bb (5)  *resolution chord

Hey, thank's for sharing some of your style.  i got to keep it real with you, I have been getting A LOT  of knowledge from you before I joined the site, just by sneaking i  the forums and I kinda feel honored by you responding to my post.  I would love to hear you play.  You are truly a blessing to God's family because you are really mentoring a lot of musicians.  Thanks for telling me how you did it, cuz I whenever I transpose I always do it 1/2 step up!   But, I'm brand new and have already gotten a lot of knowledge from cats, I think I'm going to pay the 30$ to become a member too.  Hey thanks again man.   It's funny, I don't even own a computer, I'm always on my roommate's, and He be getting mad cus I'm always on this site.  I be on here for hours cuz there isn't a printer so I handcopy EVERYTHING.  But it's so worth it, but I've been getting a lot of knowledge, now comes the hard work, trying to learn it and apply it, what good is knowledge if you don't know how to make it applicable?  I'm try and post some jazz 2-5-1 progressions

That's that gospel style I want to be able to do, sometimes I can, but a lot of times I fake it, Sorry I don't have any equipment or a keyboard, everything I play be piano.  Do you work on any finger exercises?  Like Hanon?  (the original)  I swear by Hanon  You read music too?  Hanon's self- torture but to me they are the key to get a classsical virtuoso like technique.  Let me know, I would love to throw you the patterns to the exercises I be using.  The keyboard players around Louisville that I know be almost amazed at my touch and playing ability, while I be REALLY amazed at their style, playing ability, and just overall sound.  They be wishin they could play like me, I be wishing I could play like them  I think it's easier to get the dexterity, eveness in the hands, and finger strength, than it is to learn how to play different.  But for real, Hanons are the only reason I could play Moonlight Sonata, Revolutionary Prelude (where the left hand does all runs the whole song) and Prelude No. 2 in G minor (where my hands are literally jumping all over the keyboard).  But let me know if you interested,  I got a book of jazz hanons too, they cold too, but mostly right hand stuff,  the original makes the left hand become as strong as the right.

The only finger exercises I work on are major scales and some runs.  I would love to get those Hanon exercises.  I'm sure I'm going to be able to use them once school starts back up.  I gotta get my classical skills up to par.

You know how to play the entire Moonlight Sonata?  Dang, I can only play through about half-way of the 2nd page.  I can read music, but I'd rather hear it then go to the sheet music and learn it.  My sightreading is getting better, but I'm still not that good.

Last school semester, the teacher gave me a few pieces to learn:

Prelude in C minor by Chopin ( I nailed this one)
Prelude in C major by Bach ( I nailed this on too)
Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven (work in progress)
The Easy Winners by Scott Joplin (this one is super-hard, learned up until the key change)

Any tips u can give me to increase my classical skills, I'm all for it man.  Gospel is all about the ear, but classical is all about the written music.

Bro Man I would love to help.  Honestly to me, Hanons are the most important thing a musician can do because songs kinda just show off your playing skills, but these exercises are what give you those playing skills.  Unfortunetly the only way I know to do it is wth notes so it'll be kinda long but i'm give you the first five then tell me when you ready for more.  I want to give you the whole 60.  I got these jazz hanons that get kinda funky, it's 50 of these.  To keep it real I haven't even tackled the jazz hanons yet, cuz you really got to learn the fingering  but i got you on these too.   I'm try to write the notes with the fingering under it, L.H. plays the R.H. an octave below.RH fingering is on top LH. is on bottom.  RH starts at the C an octave below middle C.  The patterns are super easy so if the note don't seem right it probably aint

YOU HAVE NOW ENTERED THE MATRIX.  LOL!
There might be a lot of mistakes cuz that was kinda confusing, and I can't find my book, so I was doing it by head.  But once you get the patterns, use a metronome and start at 60.  The book says work up to 108, but I'm on 120 right now and I go a degree higher after every time i do my set.  The Hanons are divided into three parts.  The first part has 20 exercises, i got you on those, but I got to give my brain a break.  But as you play start slow to get your strength, remember to play on the balls of your fingers!  Also, when your hands get tired, if you just play through the fatigue you'll find that your hands will tend to rejuvenate themselves as they keep going.  Also notice that Ascending the right hand does what the left hand does descending.  And descending the left hand does what the right hand does ascending,  therefore total eveness of the hands.  I got more for you bro, let me know if you want me to keep posting under this topic or start a new one or send them to you personally (i have no idea how to do that) let me know once you see this.  But I'm throw you all sixty exercises eventually, though it might take me a while.  I got jazz hanons too, but I have to find my book.  But check these out, tell me what you think.  Prepare to be bored out of your mind.  Try to do each one 4 times, remember start as slow as you can stand it.  I usually take the Metronome up a mark after I've done a whole set.  to me a set is 1-20 exercises 4 times each, sometimes I cheat and only do 3.  Then I move to 21-30, which work you twice as hard, at the same Metronome mark as the first 20.  After doing 21-30 at that tempo, the first 20 seem easy, so i move the tempo one mark up and work that way.  In mind there's no limit to how fast I can get if I work at it.  My dream is to get to presto.  But starting off slow ensures that as you get faster you'll be doing it with correct technique, remember the balls of the fingers.  Your teacher will be amazed!  You should keep it a secret so she'll never know.  Holla at me.

Wow, thanks for those exercises.  For the rest of them, I think u should send them in a pm cuz I don't know how copyright laws work with u posting all Hanons stuff, LOL.  Plust, I dont' care how boring it is, heck I spent a whole year practicing nothing but my major scales everyday, so I know about boring.  I'm sure these will help me to increase my finger speed and overall musicianship.  Thank God for you!!!

Also, can u do these in every key?  I plan on doing that once I get into it.

I went back and re-wrote them so that I could understand them better.  So, if someone wanted to practice the exercises posted, I'll post exercise #1 to show how I organized them:

Excercise #1

       C  E   F  G  A  G  F   E   (scale degrees: 1 3 4 5 6 5 4 3)
RH:  1   2  3   4  5  4  3   2
LH:  5   4  3   2  1  2  3   4
(repeat pattern ascending)

       G  E  D  C  B  C  D  E   (scale degrees: 5 3 2 1 7 1 2 3)
RH:  5  4   3  2  1  2  3  4
LH:  1  2   3  4  5  4  3  2
(repeat pattern descending)

Since the pattern repeated until infinity, I only posted the first one.  I also added the scale degrees so it can be easily played in any key.  Looking foward to some more exercises!!!

Hey T-Block, sorry about taking so long to get back to you,  But I found my jazz Hanon book I want to feed you some of these, they are a lot more fun to play.  But whenever you happen to see this could you tell me how to send them to you personally?  Oh yeah, I paid the thirty dollars today, I'm going to memorize all the progressions, worship chords, and preaching chords in every key,  I almost feel overloaded with information, i really believe that I can actually learn the style if I put in the work to memorize and learn in all keys.  My plan is to learn a key a day (probably every two)  Right now i'm trying to learn all the modes of the scales in a key each day.  Then learn chords in that key, then progressions in that key.  That's kinda my practice vision.  Pray for my work ethic.  But I dont know how to send a personal message

There are 2 ways to send a personal message.  The first way is to go to where it says "My Messages" at the top, click on the side where it says "New Message", then send me a message by typing my name in the box.  The fastest way is to click on my name inside this post.  It will take u to my profile, then scroll down and hit where it says send this member a personal message.

The Hanon exercises are old enough to be out of copyright. They are available as Adobe pdf files (and some of them for the free Scorch music plugin) from the following web link:

http://www.sheetmusicdigital.com/hanonexercises.asp

I'm still working on the first one, but practice some daily as part of the overall learning process. Hanon has been used for decades to build up speed and technique.

Some of the Czerny exercises are available free from the same web site. They sell sheet music electronically, but they have about 450 selections that can be freely downloaded. Czerny is all about building speed on the keyboard.

I'm like some of the other posters, trying to get progress in playing by ear, playing using a chord or lead sheet, and sight reading. It all works together to help glorify the Lord. I played bass guitar, but have mostly moved to keyboard, and play in our church worship band.
