I think one who earned his nickname was Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns".  Since he earned it, I'll consider his one of the best.

That's what you keep telling yourself.  But there's no way to quickly forget someone who poured his heart and soul into the franchise like AI did.

Man....ain't that the truth.....
When they traded AI...it killed this city.....

and the thing is.....he actually wanted to stay....

He loved it here....dude was a god up here......
the fans loved him....
Now he did have some issues with showing up for practice...
And some off the court problems with the law....

But when he stepped on the court.....He gave 110%....no questions asked.
Another great move on the part of Philly sports front offices.

Bunk a shout.....How you livin'??

Nope.  Nor did I call Dennis Rodman "The Worm".

Honestly, aside from the classic nicknames, I don't use any of these new-school names.   For the most part, they're stupid.  The Truth, The Matrix, The This, The That, The Other, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, blah blah blah.

True. There aren't many that are clever or truly describe the athlete. :-\
