The main riff follows a I - bVII - VI pattern.
Example: if the song started in the key of D then the progression would be D - C - G.
As it modulates up, move the pattern as needed: Eb would be Eb - Db - Ab, F would be F - Eb - Bb and so forth.
Music theory is not always music reality.

take whatever key you are in. if it's in D, then I - bVII would be D-C. D is the I chord, C is the bVII(flat 7) chord.

hey dave wouldn't the VI chord in the key of D be a B-minor (or major I dunno) instead of a G? ?/?

Yes, you caught me in a BAD typo...  :o I meant IV chord, not VI.  ;)

For shame...but technically, the VI would be a B and the vi would be a Bm...technically...you know...substitution and all that...  ;D

Sorry to be a "Jr. Grammar Wizard", but the word here is "presence"...we now return to the topic at hand already in progress.
