TRIADS
« on: July 16, 2007, 01:06:25 PM »
I'm taking a quick course in theory.  Can someone please explain (in simple terms) tonic and dominant triads and how to form them?  Thanks!
I'm playing for God's Glory--not man's. LILFINGERS

Triads are basically 3 note chords.  Chords like:

Major
Minor
Augmented
Diminished

Take a look at some of those chords here:

Tonic means 1, so whatever key you are in, a tonic chord would your 1 chord.  In C it would a C major chord, C-E-G.

Dominant means 5, so whatever key you are in, a dominant chord would be your 5 chord.  In C it would be a G major chord, G-B-D.
Real musicians play in every key!!!
Music Theory, da numbers work!
