Ole School rhythmn
« on: September 18, 2004, 02:12:34 PM »
Any guitars out there who are into "ole school" gospel guitar rhythmn playing(Staple Singers, Julius Cheeks' guitarist, back-in-the-day Quartet backup guitar)? I want to learn that style. Help appreciated. I'm influenced by Hurbert Sumlin and Willie Dixon of Howlin' Wolf fame.

.....a story!...many years ago I was asked to play fr a quartet singing group!!....back then it was my first exposure to"church folk"....they had a gig at one of these gospel programs with 50 groups playing.......shiney hair and drunk!...all of them!.....Back then I was considered a really good guitarist.....but when i started to play...they just stared at me...."What's wrong...." i asked?.....They said caint you play quotet music.....ya got ta tune in Vastapoole!.....I cursed back then!...I said..."8&^^%$$###...are you talking about?"

Well now i know what they meant...but never took the time to learn it!...It is a great style of playing...but i just cant help ya!......sorry...good luck....If you want to learn newer stuff or jazzy stuff...check out my website!...www.uriahsmusic.com....
